The Tea Leaves

Poems & Quotes / Sunday, October 15th, 2017

christopher troy tea leaves

I pour hot water with meaning
Over the parched tea leaves
Timing perfect with the sun’s early rise
Watching the leaves swell with life
Tinging the water’s excited molecules
With the color of fresh moss
Returning the favor of life
With its flavor of earth

I pour more life over the leaves
They have more to say
Their chlorophyll not yet empty
The water still thirsty for tales
Fortunes begin to fade
With the certainty of seasons

I pour the final cup
Warmth over her corpse
She is now light translucent
Nothing left to tell
Her story in me now
Waiting to be released again
At my tea time
