The Puritan Wife

Poems & Quotes / Friday, July 7th, 2017

The woman, the wife,

Bursts into tears

Perhaps at her Puritan inability

To throw the glass of red wine

Against the wall.

She runs to the next room

to be alone.

But she does not forget

To hop over the threshold

Where strangers to the home

Often trip and almost fall.

(She never warns them

because it’s funny

to watch them almost fall).

  1. My parents house has a low hanging wall I, at 5’3.5″ barely cleared when leaping bouncily down when I was in my 20s. I would never remember to mention to the guys who followed me down there til it was to late and I think my parents got a kick out of it.
